As part of the Digital Support Programme, the Communications Commission held informational meetings on the subject of media literacy with town hall employees of the municipalities of Senaki, Chkhorotsku and Tskaltubo. The meetings were chaired by the ComCom Media Literacy Department representative Mariam Gugulashvili, who shared information about the role and significance of media literacy in the modern society.
The meetings discussed separation between information, persuasion, fact, opinion and fake news, disinformation techniques, and distinguishing between trolls and bots. In addition, participants received comprehensive information on propaganda and conspiracy theories, as well as the dangers of disinformation and the capabilities of artificial intelligence.
In addition to theoretical information, the meetings also included practical exercises, where participants had the opportunity to analyse and discuss specific examples by completing team tasks.
The Digital Support Programme is part of the Log-in Georgia project, which is co-funded by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank. It is being implemented to support the Georgian State Internetization Programme. The project aims to provide around 500,000 people in rural Georgia with access to affordable high-quality internet services, as well as to help develop digital skills and facilitate the use of digital services.
