ComCom Member Takes Part in the 75th Meeting of European Audiovisual Observatory
Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze took part in a conference organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) and the Norwegian media regulator Medietilsynet, titled “Protecting Minors from Online Harm in an Open and Safe Public Space.” Mr. Makharadze also took part in the 75th meeting of the EAO Executive Council.
The 75th Executive Council meeting focussed on the approval of EAO’s 2025 activity report and revised budget for 2026, the discussion of the 2027 action plan and projected budget, and updates to the video game strategy of the organisation.
During the meeting, the EAO Acting Executive Director, department heads, and the Head of Administration presented information on the projects implemented in 2025, the key strategic priorities, as well as various organisational and financial matters. Participants also discussed the next Executive Council meeting, which is scheduled to take place in November 2026.
During the conference organised by the country holding the Executive Council chairmanship, representatives of the regulatory authorities and member states discussed the approaches to protecting the rights of minors in digital and media environments, as well as the challenges associated with this objective. Panel discussions and conference sessions placed particular emphasis on strengthening the regulatory frameworks to combat online disinformation, and promoting media literacy through examples and best practices from Nordic countries.
The European Audiovisual Observatory has been operating under the umbrella of the Council of Europe since 1992, analysing the facts and data in the European film, broadcasting and audiovisual industry. The organisation currently has 41 members.
Georgia became an EAO member in 2016, and chaired the EAO Executive Council in 2024. Member of the Communications Commission Ivane Makharadze represents Georgia in the EAO Executive Council.
