ComCom Issues a Written Warning to Rustavi 2 for Violating Impartiality Principles

The Communications Commission has issued a written warning to Media Holding, operating under the brand name Rustavi 2, for violating the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting. Specifically, the monitoring activities carried out by the Commission between 10 August and 12 August of this year established that the 21:00 news programmes on the channel contained instances of reporting news based on the broadcaster’s personal attitudes/opinions.

The legislation prohibits broadcasters from covering, in news and political programmes, information reflecting political or other forms of confrontation, as well as current public policy issues, based on the broadcaster’s personal attitudes or opinions.

As Media Holding had not been sanctioned for a similar violation during the previous year, the Communications Commission issued the broadcaster a written warning in accordance with the law.
