ComCom Chairman Summarises the Process and Results of Integrating Media Literacy into Education
Chairman of the Communications Commission Goga Gulordava presented ComCom’s 2025 activity report at a joint meeting of the Committees on Economic Policy and Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration of the Parliament of Georgia, where he discussed the activities carried out and results achieved by ComCom in the development of media literacy in the country.
During the presentation of the report, Goga Gulordava highlighted the important projects implemented by the Commission together with its partners to promote media literacy. Mr. Gulordava noted that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), projects have been implemented for the ninth consecutive year aimed at increasing media literacy levels and developing the relevant skills among teachers, students and parents, so that both minors and the society as a whole have the knowledge necessary to protect themselves from online threats.
“We have achieved significant results in the field of media literacy. I would particularly like to highlight the process of integrating media literacy into education. Today, media literacy is taught in 300 schools across the country, and one of our main priorities and goals is to further increase this number and ensure a more effective integration of media literacy into formal education at all levels.
“From 2019 through 2025, within the framework of ComCom’s projects aimed at developing media literacy skills as well as critical and logical thinking, 16,300 students, 5,500 teachers and 1,900 students have undergone training.
“The Commission has conducted up to 1,500 conferences, seminars and informational meetings on media literacy. Since 2019, ComCom’s media literacy projects have reached a total of 33,700 beneficiaries,” the ComCom Chairman stated.
