ComCom Chairman Goga Gulordava Takes Part in the Mobile World Congress
Chairman of the Communications Commission, Goga Gulordava, and member of the Commission Ekaterine Imedadze took part in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona and organised by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), as well as in the 20th anniversary GSMA Ministerial Programme. During the event, the ComCom delegation took part in high-level events and discussions. The Chairman of the Commission also held meetings with representatives of GSMA and other international organisations.
Within the framework of the congress, Goga Gulordava met with the Head of Regulatory Affairs at GSMA, John Giusti, where he spoke about the current priorities of the Communications Commission, the implemented projects, and key achievements. He also emphasised the importance of GSMA’s expertise for the Communications Commission. The parties further discussed the opportunities to deepen their cooperation.
In addition, representatives of the Communications Commission attended the opening of the high-level programme and the panel discussion “Connecting a World in Motion.” The discussion featured prominent speakers, including the Head of Regulatory Affairs at GSMA, John Giusti; the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin; the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann; the Deputy High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Kelly T. Clements; Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr; and Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicodemos Damianou.
During the visit, the Chairman and representatives of the Communications Commission visited the Equinix data center located in Barcelona, which represents one of the key components of the infrastructure network supporting the global digital economy.
Key topics discussed at the Mobile World Congress and the GSMA Ministerial Programme included the development of fifth- and sixth-generation mobile technologies (5G and 6G), connectivity, and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence for the telecommunications industry and consumers. Other issues addressed included mobile network infrastructure, monetisation opportunities, the digitalisation of governance and industry, digital inclusion, strengthening network autonomy, mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), digital transformation, and the role of technology in shaping a better global future.
The Mobile World Congress is one of the largest international events in the telecommunications sector, aimed at discussing current trends in the mobile market, strengthening cooperation among stakeholders, showcasing innovations, and presenting modern technological solutions. Within the framework of the congress, the delegation of the Communications Commission participated in high-level events and discussions, and held bilateral meetings with heads of fellow regulatory authorities, representatives of GSMA, and representatives of international companies.
