ComCom Cautions BMG for Product Placement Violation

The Communications Commission has issued BMG with a written caution for product placement violation. In March 2025, the Commission monitored the programmes aired by the broadcaster and identified a violation of product placement rules. Specifically, BMG carried out product placement without clearly identifying it as such, and the broadcaster failed to inform the audience about the commercial nature of the communication. Furthermore, the product placement affected the programme content, attaching excessive importance to the product.

Due to the fact that BMG had not committed a similar violation during the past year, the Commission issued a written caution to the broadcaster.

A product placement violation is a gross violation of interests of the viewers, as it may influence their decisions. Furthermore, the placement of products (goods or services) in a programme must be clearly identified at the beginning and the end of the programme, as well as after each commercial break. It is therefore important that broadcasters comply with the Georgian legislation on product placement in order to avoid violating the rights of the viewers and influencing the programme content which, in turn, would negatively affect the quality of the product.
