ComCom Announces the Winners of the Media Literacy Hackathon
The Communications Commission and the Media Lab have successfully concluded the third Global Media Literacy Hackathon for young people. The hackathon was held as part of UNESCO's Global Media and Information Literacy Week, with the main themes being artificial intelligence, disinformation, digital literacy, and cybersecurity. As part of the event, the jury selected three winning teams, who received cash prizes of GEL 5,000, GEL 3,000 and GEL 1,000 from ComCom.
The first place was won by the team Lianebi, whose project will help parents of children with autism spectrum disorders in their daily care and communication. The platform will enable parents to create a personalised profile of their child, which will make it easier to manage any future crisis situations.
The second place was taken by the team Metamorphosis, whose main idea is to raise awareness about media literacy. The team presented a computer game that teaches digital literacy to teenagers in an interactive and cognitive way.
The third place went to the project 404_crew, which uses artificial intelligence to assist lecturers and students at universities and other educational facilities.
The 10 best teams taking part in the Media Literacy Hackathon actively worked with professional mentors for 2 days on refining their projects, after which they presented their works. The panel members – Head of ComCom's Media Literacy Department Mariam Dakhundaridze, cybersecurity expert Nata Goderdzishvili and GITA project manager Zura Dzidziguri – selected the winners based on the relevance of the problem, the effectiveness of the solution, and the sustainability of the project.
The participants received training on “How to Validate an Idea” and “Creating and Testing a Prototype,” which covered how an idea is validated before starting the work on a project; what is needed to make a product valuable to the user; and how to create a product prototype and test it.
In addition to the training, startup advisor and mentor Tatia Okriashvili, UI/UX designer Revaz Kakabadze, Head of Fablab Iliauni Avtandil Mghebrishvili, and startuppers Demetre Mildiani and Sandro Bolkvadze, worked with the teams on improving their projects.
The Global Media Literacy Hackathon aims to raise awareness about media literacy and its importance in the society.
