ComCom Announces the 3rd Media Literacy Olympiad for Schools Across Georgia

The Communications Commission is announcing the Media Literacy Olympiad for students and teachers for the third consecutive year, with the aim of raising awareness of media literacy within school communities. Schools across Georgia can submit their competition entries from 21 September through 21 October. 

The Olympiad is open to school teams, which must consist of students from grades I–VIII or IX–XII, and be led by one teacher. Using reliable sources and citing them appropriately, teams must prepare a creative and informative project on the topic: “Media Literacy Starts with You – How Can We Create a Reliable and Responsible Information Environment?” Participating teams must submit their projects in one of the following formats: video, podcast, comic, or digital poster (infographic). 

The entries submitted as part of the Media Literacy Olympiad will be evaluated by a jury panel, which will select one winner in each of the two age categories based on the most informative and creative entry. ComCom will equip the winning schools with a modern media laboratory on their premises and award the winners high-tech prizes. 

In addition, the 10 best entries will be published on the online media literacy platform mediatsigniereba.ge, while all participating teams will receive digital certificates. 

There is no limit on the number of students in each team. However, each team is required to submit only one entry. 

Nearly 350 entries were submitted in last year’s competition, involving approximately 2,200 students and more than 300 teachers. The jury selected two winners: the public school of Lakhamula village in the Municipality of Mestia, and Batumi Public School No. 1, both of which received modern media laboratories from ComCom.
