Communications Commission rejects the Complaint against TV Formula

The Communications Commission has decided not to uphold the complaint against TV Formula regarding the TV show Chemi Tsolis Dakalebi (“My Wife’s Friends”). Complainants were seeking to have the broadcaster fined for violating the legislation. The case concerns the episode titled “Chemi Tsolis Dakalebi will Return on 13 March,” which was aired on 7 March 2021, at 22:07. During the episode, actor Shota Nozadze addressed the viewers using the language that is typical for his character on the TV show, encouraging them to watch the show.

The Communications Commission discussed the issue and ruled that the actor announced the start of the new season of Chemi Tsolis Dakalebi through the persona of Tengo Maziashvili – respective character on the TV show. It is typical for his character to use specific vocabulary and terminology on the show. The Commission ruled that in the given case, the use of offensive vocabulary was conditioned by the traits defining the character, and can be justified by the artistic value of the episode. It should also be noted that the episode was aired at 22:07, in compliance with the legal requirement to broadcast programmes containing vocabulary that is unsuitable for persons under the age of 12 after 21:00.
