Commission has revoked rights of TV companies “Guria” and “Piki” to use radio frequency spectrum in order to ensure digital terrestrial TV broadcasting

GNCC has made changes in the decisions to grant radio frequency spectrum in order to ensure  Free-to-Air digital terrestrial TV broadcasting to “Independent Broadcasting Space for Guria” Ltd and “Piki” Ltd and has revoked rights to use the noted resources of both companies.  

In accordance with the Commission’s decision based on Decree №206 approved by the government of Georgia on February 10, 2014, “on   Relevant Recommendations of Strategy Action Plan  from of Analogue Terrestrial to Digital Terrestrial  Switchover” Each local Free-to-Air  television, including “Independent Broadcasting Space for Guria” Ltd and “Piki” Ltd have been granted radio frequency spectrum in order to organize digital TV network. The final deadline to build digital TV network was defined June 1st of 2016.

Both companies have notified GNCC in a written form, that they are cancelling TV broadcasting and for this reason none of the companies are capable to ensure the construction of digital TV network before June 1, 2016. 2016, which is the violation of the Commission’s decision on granting radio frequency spectrum in order to ensure Free-to-Air digital TV broadcasting to “Independent Broadcasting Space for Guria” Ltd and “Piki” Ltd and became the basis for the revocation of the right to use radio frequency spectrum.
