ComCom Chairman Meets with the Heads of Regulators from Czech Republic, Jordan, Romania, Poland, and Turkey
Chairman of the Communications Commission, Goga Gulordava, and ComCom member Ekaterine Imedadze took part in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona and organised by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA). During the event, the ComCom representatives held meetings with the heads of telecom regulators from Romania, Turkey, Czech Republic, Jordan, and Poland. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the International Relations Department of the Communications Commission, Nino Grdzelishvili.
The first meeting held by Goga Gulordava and ComCom representatives was with the President of the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania (ANCOM), Valeriu Ștefan Zgonea. During the meeting, the parties highlighted the importance of cooperation in the areas of digital connectivity and the Black Sea Submarine Cable project. Goga Gulordava also spoke about Georgia’s potential to serve as a digital hub for the region, and emphasized the importance of ANCOM’s expert support on issues such as market analysis, the development of a digital infrastructure map, and the transposition of the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC) into national legislation. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen the cooperation between ComCom and ANCOM within the framework of the memorandum signed in 2025.
Goga Gulordava also met with the Chairman of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority of Turkey (BTK), Ömer Abdullah Karagözoglu. During the meeting, the parties positively assessed the cooperation between their respective institutions, including the online working meetings on telecom market regulation and frequency management. Furthermore, the chairmen agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation in 2026. The discussion also addressed cross-border coordination issues related to mobile signal alignment in the Adjara region.
Within the framework of the congress, Goga Gulordava met with the Chairman of the Council of the Czech Telecommunication Office (CTU), Marek Ebert. During the meeting, the parties discussed the importance of sharing experience on the transition from analog to digital broadcasting and spectrum management. They also emphasised the long-standing cooperation and close partnership between ComCom and CTU.
Mr. Gulordava also held a meeting with the Executive Director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Jordan (TRC), Lara Al‑Khatib. During the meeting, the parties positively assessed their cooperation over the past year. They also discussed a planned memorandum of cooperation, which will include collaboration in key areas such as telecom sector regulation, spectrum management and monitoring, licensing, protection of consumer rights in the telecommunications sector, and international cooperation.
Within the framework of the congress, a bilateral meeting was held between Goga Gulordava and the President of the Office of Electronic Communications of Poland (UKE), Przemyslaw Kuna. During the meeting, the parties emphasised the long-standing cooperation between the two institutions and highlighted the importance of joint projects and partnership. The ComCom Chairman underlined the significant contribution of UKE to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Communications Commission and supporting the practical implementation of European experience.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is one of the largest global events in the telecommunications sector, aiming to deepen cooperation among stakeholders and discuss the ongoing trends in mobile technologies. The event also provides an opportunity to visit exhibitions of modern technology manufacturers from various sectors, allowing participants to explore the latest innovations and technological developments.
