COMCOM and European Commission Organise a Two-Day Training Session for Regional Broadcasters Regarding Pre-Election Duties

The Communications Commission held a two-day training session for around 20 regional broadcasters regarding the coverage of the pre-election period of the 2020 Georgian parliamentary elections. The training was organised and funded by the European Commission.

 ‘The two-day training course “The Election Process: Media Regulations and Pre-Election Coverage Standards” covered topics such as the broadcasters’ obligations under law, issue to be considered when covering the pre-election period and ways of ensuring compliance of the coverage with legal requirements. Media representatives received instructions for fulfilling respective legal requirements, while COMCOM representatives explained in detail the duties and responsibilities in the  pre-election period and answered questions during the meeting.

COMCOM began pre-election media monitoring on 1 September 2020. The Commission carries out both quantitative and qualitative media monitoring, which includes the monitoring of election advertisements, debates, news and political shows, as well as pre-election campaigning and opinion polling. COMCOM will regularly publish election monitoring reports.
