3.3 Million Mobile Internet Users in 2020

Mobile service market penetration in Georgia remains high, amounting to 148% in 2020. The number of mobile subscribers was 5.1 million at the end of 2020. These figures indicate that customers have more than one mobile phone number in their possession, meaning that people are aware of the market service rates and use different networks for different services based on their needs. The share of subscribers per company was as follows: MagtiCom – 41%, Silknet – 33%, and Beeline – 26%.

MagtiCom subscribers spent the most on mobile services in 2020 (GEL 9.9), followed by Silknet users (GEL 9.3) and Beeline customers (GEL 6.1).

The number of mobile internet users is growing from year to year. Between 2016 and 2020, the number of internet users increased by an average of 7.1% per year. There were 3.3 million mobile network subscribers using internet services at the end of 2020. This rapid growth is conditioned by several factors: the development of modern technologies in Georgia and the improvement of digital skills of the local population has led to increased use of mobile internet technologies. This is most evident among the younger generation. Demand for online information has increased significantly. The dynamics of behavior of telecom service users is also changing on a regular basis. More and more services are moving into the online/digital space, which naturally leads to increased use of relevant technologies. At the end of 2020, Silknet had the highest number of mobile internet users (1.17 million), followed by MagtiCom (1.08 million) and Beeline (1 million).

In 2020, total outgoing voice traffic increased by 2.7% year-on-year to 10.2 billion minutes. Based on the fourth quarter data, Beeline customers account for the majority of talk time (due to the relatively low tariffs offered by the company), followed by Silknet and MagtiCom customers, respectively.
